Feast of the Nativity of John the Baptsit

The Nativity of John the Baptist on June 24 comes three months after the celebration on March 25 of the Annunciation, when the angel Gabriel told Mary that her cousin Elizabeth was in her sixth month of pregnancy,^[3] and six months before the Christmas celebration of the birth of Jesus. The purpose of these festivals is not to celebrate the exact dates of these events, but simply to commemorate them in an interlinking way. The Nativity of John the Baptist anticipates the feast of Christmas.

The Nativity of John the Baptist is one of the oldest festivals of the Christian church.

Catholic Schools Day with St Joseph's Waipuk.

We celebrated Catholic Schools day today. St Joseph's Waipukarau travelled to join with us for a day of prayer, community and most definitely fun!!!!

We really appreciated the opportunity to spend time together as members of Catholic Schools from the Palmerston North Catholic Diocese of the Holy Spirit. It was a wonderful opportunity to foster strong community built  on friendship and faith.

The Sacred Heart of Jesus-3 June 2016

Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus goes back at least to the 11th century, but through the 16th century, it remained a private devotion, often tied to devotion to the Five Wounds of Christ. The first feast of the Sacred Heart was celebrated on August 31, 1670, in Rennes, France, through the efforts of Fr. Jean Eudes (1602-1680). From Rennes, the devotion spread, but it took the visions of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque (1647-1690) for the devotion to become universal.

 The Sacred Heart of Jesus represents not simply His physical heart but His love for all mankind.

O Lord Jesus!

Scripture Competition

On Monday 16 May we traveled to Palmerston North where two of our students Tessa Higginson-Year 5 and Molly Pawson-Year 6 took part in the Annual Scripture Reading Competition for Year 5 and 6's at St Mary's Church in Palmerston North.
This competition is run annually and the Catholic Primary Schools around the Palmerston North area are invited to participate.

Both Molly and Tessa represented our school and both deserve a great deal of credit for their wonderful Parable proclamations.

Well done to the both of you!!!!

May-the Month of Mary

We Celebrate in May

The month of May offers much to celebrate. We honour Mary in a special way, often through the crowning of statues of Mary, in recognition of her role as Queen of All Saints. Additionally, the Easter season comes to a close with the feasts of the Ascension and Pentecost. 

Mary, Our Mother

Mary has a unique and privileged place in salvation history and in the Church. 
Mary, is our first model of discipleship. 

Room 5 are taking turns to bring home the  Mary Prayer Kite. Please take the time to pray together, and give thanks for the blessings in your lives.

Making a New Home.

 We welcomed a new student to our Class at the end of Term 1. Tyrize only just arrived in New Zealand.
Tyrize has come with his family from Laguna in the Philippians where  he attended Saint Michael's College.
We hope his family enjoy a long and happy association with our School and Parish.
